Deferred Maintenance Is Deferred Risk

Critical infrastructure that is not maintained to manufacturer specifications and industry standards accumulates risk that eventually becomes an unplanned outage. DCS Global's preventive maintenance programs eliminate that risk — with certified technicians, documented procedures, and complete maintenance records.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a preventive maintenance visit?

A PM visit follows the OEM maintenance manual for each piece of equipment and includes visual inspection, functional testing, cleaning, lubrication, torque checks, firmware updates, and performance measurements. Every visit produces a written report with findings, test data, and recommendations.

How often should UPS batteries be tested?

DCS Global recommends quarterly battery impedance testing to track string health trends, with an annual capacity (discharge) test to verify actual runtime. Battery strings showing degradation are flagged for proactive replacement before they cause a runtime shortfall during an actual outage.

Can you maintain equipment that is still under OEM warranty?

Yes. DCS Global performs maintenance to OEM specifications and documents all work to preserve warranty coverage. We also manage OEM warranty claims and coordinate factory service when required.

What is load bank testing and why is it important?

Load bank testing applies a controlled electrical load to a generator to verify it can carry its rated capacity, maintain voltage and frequency stability, and transfer load from the ATS within spec. Annual load bank testing is required by NFPA 110 for emergency power systems and is the only way to verify generator performance under real conditions.

Do you provide emergency maintenance outside of a contract?

Yes. DCS Global provides emergency maintenance on a time-and-materials basis for non-contract customers. Response times may be longer than contracted SLAs during peak demand periods. We recommend a maintenance agreement for facilities requiring guaranteed response times.

Why Organizations Act

Business Challenges We Solve

Deferred Maintenance Accumulation

Skipping or delaying preventive maintenance creates compounding risk. A missed battery test today becomes an undetected degraded string that fails during the next utility outage.

Warranty Compliance Risk

OEM warranties require documented maintenance to remain valid. Undocumented or non-compliant maintenance can void coverage on equipment worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Regulatory & Audit Requirements

NFPA 110, NFPA 70B, and insurance requirements mandate documented maintenance programs. Facilities without records face compliance findings and potential coverage gaps.

In-House Technician Gaps

Finding and retaining NETA-certified technicians with data center experience is increasingly difficult. Outsourced maintenance programs provide certified expertise without the hiring burden.

Unplanned Downtime Costs

The average cost of data center downtime exceeds $9,000 per minute. Preventive maintenance programs reduce unplanned failures by identifying degraded components before they cause outages.

Equipment End-of-Life Visibility

Without systematic maintenance records and trend data, organizations are often surprised by equipment failures that could have been predicted and planned for months in advance.

Trusted Advisor Framework

Maintenance Program Buyer's Guide

Use this framework to evaluate your requirements before engaging vendors. Organizations that complete this analysis make faster decisions and achieve better outcomes.

What equipment requires preventive maintenance?

UPS systems, generators, PDUs, ATS, switchgear, and cooling units all require scheduled maintenance. Prioritize by criticality and consequence of failure.

What maintenance frequency is appropriate?

OEM recommendations, NFPA standards, and insurance requirements define minimum frequencies. Higher-criticality equipment and older assets may warrant more frequent service.

Do you have documented maintenance records?

Maintenance records are required for warranty compliance, insurance coverage, and regulatory audits. If records are incomplete, a baseline assessment should precede a new PM program.

What are your emergency response requirements?

Facilities with strict availability requirements need contracted emergency response SLAs — not best-effort T&M response. Define your acceptable response time before selecting a provider.

Are your batteries due for testing or replacement?

UPS batteries are the most common cause of UPS failure. Batteries older than 3–4 years without recent impedance testing represent significant undetected risk.

When was your generator last load bank tested?

NFPA 110 requires annual load bank testing for emergency power systems. Generators that only run monthly exercise tests may not perform at rated capacity when needed.
